Simon’s Town is a charming seaside village on the Cape Peninsula of cobbled streets and great beaches. Swim amongst the colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach, one of Cape Town’s most popular beaches, or go snorkelling on Seaforth Beach. Simon’s Town’s small waterfront is a bustling spot complete with yacht club, town wharf, restaurants and picturesque Jubilee Square. Rent a kayak and paddle around Simon’s Bay or to Boulders Beach. Simon’s Town is a place of naval history, home to a proud tradition of fighting sail. Named after Governor Simon van der Stel, Simon’s Bay was picked as a safe winter anchorage for the ships of the Dutch East India Company. In the 19th century the British chose it as their naval base, and today it’s home to the South African Navy. Explore Simon’s Town’s past by walking down historical St George’s Street and stopping in at the Naval History Museum and the Simon’s Town Museum. The town is en route to Cape Point, a highlight of the Cape Peninsula, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.
