The Cape Peninsula, curving 75-kilometres into the sea as the southwestern tip of Africa, is often described as one of the world’s most beautiful places. Visitors are attracted by its Mediterranean climate, striking mountain ranges with scenic drives, beautiful beaches and extraordinary floral diversity. The peninsula is often explored by taking the train from Cape Town out to False Bay with its picturesque village-like suburbs dotted along the coastline. Each has its own unique character from the surfer’s hub of Muizenberg, St James with its popular tidal pool and colourful beach huts, to bohemian Kalk Bay, well-known for its fresh fish, antique stores and local craftwork. Fish Hoek offers a family beach with warmer water and you can visit the colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town. At the peninsula’s southern tip, you’ll find Cape Point in the Good Hope Nature Reserve, with its towering sea cliffs. The Atlantic seaboard on the western side of the peninsula offers incredible views and sunsets from Chapman’s Peak, one of the world’s most spectacular coastal roads. Don’t miss out on Llandudno’s pristine beach, Hout Bay’s beautiful scenery or horse riding along Noordhoek’s beach.
